The Eclipse Centre offers off-road trekking as our specialty so you can really relax into your trek on our own trails beautifully situated against the stunning backdrop of the Macgillycuddy’s Reeks.

With trails suited to beginners through to experienced riders you have the opportunity to ride through moorland, meadow, forest, streamsand rivers, with plenty of opportunity for cantering and galloping.

Swiss-born drumming instructor, Urs Wenk of Drum Dance Ireland, comes to The Eclipse Centre every 4-8 weeks. Suitable for beginners and intermediate drummers, the workshop will start with a technique primer and then Urs will bring the group gradually through a number of traditional African rhythms. All drums are provided, or feel free to bring your own!

You can take part in tranquil inshore bay and lake kayaking with the only noise the sound of your paddle breaking the water, or there’s river and white water kayaking for the more adventurous. The centre is close to some of the most scenic coastal paddling in Kerry. Kingfishers, otters, dolphins and seals are just a small sample of the wildlife we frequently encounter.

Adventure Training

Level 1 Kayak Skills

The level 1 proficiency is an ICU (Irish Canoe Union) qualification. These courses are suitable for beginners and those with limited experience. They consist of 2 full days. Sessions run from 10:00am – 4:00 pm each day. Assessment for the ICU Level 1 Kayak Skills Award is included on the course.

Level 2 Kayak Skills

The courses are of introductory level and operate under the guidance of qualified Irish Canoe Union Instructors. Assessment for the ICU Level 2 Kayak Skills Award is included at the end of each course.

For people with some kayaking experience it is possible to progress directly to the level 2 award. The skills and strokes learned in this programme are a progression from level 1.

Hill walking: A to C Categories including:- Carrauntoohil, Peakeento Windy Gap, Cummeengeera circuit (Beara peninsula), Killaha-Mucksna, Gleninchaquin, Cloonee circuit and many grade ‘c’ category walks that explore the many sites of antiquity and local heritage.

We have an excellent range of hybrid bikes and mountain bikes for you to use on our own rough tracks or on a self-led cycling tour in the area. Bicycles can be hired by the half day, day or week. Equipment is provided and we also provide a unique break-down service.

Rough track cycling safari: Use our hybrid bicycles on our challenging rough track trails.

Self-led tours: We provide the map and the bike and a packed lunch if required and you supply the leg power. Stunning mountain and coastal scenery and the chance to see abundant wildlife including the chance of seeing the newly reintroduced white-tailed eagle.

General hire: If you have a longer tour in mind you can hire our bicycles for the week or by the weekend.

Unique Rescue Service: to ensure a carefree cycling holiday we offer a pick-up and rescue service.

The Eclipse Centre offers cycling to suit all the family.

The Eclipse Centre is situated just over two and a half kilometres from the popular Ring of Kerry tourist route which takes in with stunning coastal views and mountain and lake scenery which is part of the Killarney National Park including Muckross House and Farm.

Once you’ve exhausted the myriad of things to see and do at the centre there are a multitude of things to do and places to see in the local area.

As well as beautiful driving routes along the Ring of Kerry the nearby Beara Peninsula is also well worth a visit with many attractions such as Derreen Gardens and the spectacular Gleninchaquin waterfall with stone circle in the grounds and an excellent opportunity to spot the elusive otter in the rivers and lakes.

For dining there is no better location than Kenmare. With many first class restaurants, Kenmare has developed an excellent reputation for fine dining with a variety of quality restaurants to suit all budgets. Sneem is also close by with excellent dining choices available.

A trip out to the world heritage site of the Skellig Isles is a must, especially if you have always wanted to get up close and personal to the colourful and it has to be said, extremely appealing puffin. As well as puffins, the islands are home torazorbills, guillemots, kittiwakes and fulmars as well as the elusive storm petrel. Little Skellig is home to one of the largest gannet colonies in Europe with over 20,000 pairs. From a distance the island looks like it’s covered in icing sugar such is the presence of the birds in this dramatic environment.

There are excellent opportunities to see common and grey seals, basking sharks,dolphins as well as occasional sightings of minke whales, fin whales and sometimes even killer whales.

Ireland is renowned for a wealth of megalithic monuments including standing stones, wedge tombs and rock art. Indeed, the largest concentration of rock art in Ireland is within a pleasant bike ride of the Eclipse Centre.

Another not-to-be-missed experience is the night sky here. With no light pollution, the milky way is clearly visible on a clear night and if you’re lucky enough to be here in a meteorite shower you can witness Kerry’s own fireworks display.

Team Challenges prove very popular with Sports Clubs (such as GAA), schools, youth clubs, stag and hen parties.
