Eclipse Environmental Policy
We at Eclipse Ireland believe that in order to work towards a harmonious accord between people, technology and nature, all our activities must take the environment into consideration to maintain the wild beauty of our countryside. We believe we can make a useful contribution by becoming a leading ‘eco-friendly’ operation whilst striving to achieve harmony with ecology and the environment.
We underpin this commitment with our membership of The Green Tourism Business Scheme and our affiliation with Fáilte Ireland’s (and their partners) environmental guidelines for riding establishments.
Albeit a very small operation in global terms we acknowledge the impact of our activities on the environment. Our aim is to minimise that impact as far as practicable, at local, regional and even global levels. We aim to conserve natural resources and prevent environmental pollution by adopting sound principals and best practice according to the principals of sustainable development.
The Eclipse Centre will comply fully with environmental legislation and officially approved codes of practice, and will make continued efforts:
- To promote sound environmental management policies throughout the centre.
- To increase awareness of environmental responsibilities amongst its staff and guests.
- To work with other agencies locally, and nationally to promote appropriate environment policies.
- To minimise waste and pollution and to develop and operate effective waste management and recycling procedures.
- Use recycled and recyclable material where appropriate: choosing products and suppliers which minimise negative environmental impact, thereby promoting sustainable development.
We ask for you cooperation in ensuring:
- All glass and paper cardboard are recycled.
- All used paper and vegetable waste is composted.
- Environmentally friendly and natural cleaning products are used.
- Protect natural habitats and local wildlife and preserve biological diversity.
- Reduce consumption of fossil fuels through improvements to energy efficiency and substitute with renewable energy resources.
- Reduce water consumption.
- Promote a purchasing policy which will give preference as far as practicable, to those products and services, which cause least harm to the environment.
- Avoid use, wherever possible of environmentally damaging substances, materials and processes.
- Please encourage family members to use modes of transport which minimise the environmental impact.
- Encourage the purchase of ‘Fair-Trade’ products wherever practicable.
- Never knowingly use genetically modified foods.
We ask our customers to be careful what is disposed of in the toilets (personal hygiene bags are provided)
PURCHASING POLICY
It is our policy (wherever practicable) to repair before renew.
We encourage consideration for the environment and impact upon it when purchasing substances, materials, equipment and maintenance and building contracts. Particular consideration is given to:
- Energy usage.
- Waste minimisation and process efficiency.
- Re-use and recycling opportunities.
- Avoidance of ozone depleting substances.
- Control of discharges to air land and water.
- Noise levels generated from plant and machinery.
- Eco-toxicity of materials released to land, air and water.
- Requesting a copy of suppliers ‘Environmental Policy’.
WASTE DISPOSAL
All waste will go in the appropriate bins, which are colour coded and all clearly marked with the substances which go in each one.
CYCLE TOURING AND CUSTOM MADE MAPS
The Management of Eclipse actively support the minimum use of you motor vehicle by providing bicycles and local walking routes. This is by far the best way to appreciate and tour the surrounding area. Please take advantage of our special touring rates and make full use of this facility.

Stables & Riding Arena
Eclipse has an all-weather rubber chip outdoor riding arena measuring 40m x 20m. Ample room and covered canapies for all spectators.
Livery is available
We have 12 spacious stables in an exceptionally well-kept yard. Livery customers also have use of the large all-weather arena and the private trails around the Eclipse estate.

Swan House
Swan House was built on the back of a dream… when you ask Athos why he decided to pick up roots and relocate to Ireland in the frequently weather-challenged county of Kerry rather than his native Cyprus, he brings forth his ready smile and looks out toward the majestic MacGillicuddy Reeks. “Where else do you get all this right on your doorstep?” He smiles waving his arm across the vista that takes in a timeless bucolic view with rivers, streams, mountains and pasture. He has a point!

Our equestrian and activity centre near Kenmare, Co Kerry includes eleven magnificent stables, with horses and ponies suited to all the family, an outdoor all weather arena, off road trekking, kayaking and fishing on our private lake or river, mountain biking, archery and more! After a day horse riding through the woods you can enjoy a warm dip in our spa.

Athos
Athos is the visionary behind Eclipse Ireland and the Swan House Estate. He has a passion for the great outdoors. Teamwork. Power. Fun. Adventure. He has built and landscaped the estate almost singlehandedly over the past 15 years and contracted construction of the Centre in 2008. He pours his life and soul into making Eclipse a successful experience for everyone involved; ensuring that each visitor to the centre goes away feeling fulfilled and with a feeling of achievement. He has an innate understanding of people’s needs. He’s great with kids. Whether you want to challenge your inner being or relax your battered soul, Athos will always do his best to help guide you along the way.

Oh, and he cooks a mean steak! Athos’s younger life saw him as chef & proprietor of Bristol’s legendary Cattleman’s Steakhouse Restaurant. He brings this culinary knowledge to the forefront with BBQ catering for all your birthday parties, corporate events and hen & stag parties.
Judy
Judy is Eclipse’s Stable Manager. She is a qualified CHA Level 4 instructor. Judy was involved with Pegasus USA and also ran Centred Riding and Natural Horsemanship Clinics working with renowned people like Sally Swift, Tom Dorrence (Natural Horsemanship) and Jane Savoy (Dressage).
